About
Founded by Madan Mohan Malaviya in 1916, BHU is one of Asia's largest residential universities, with a walled 1,300-acre campus in Varanasi that contains everything from a Sanskrit faculty to a hospital, a temple and an art museum. It ranks 6th among Indian universities in NIRF 2025 and teaches almost every discipline under one roof, including medicine, law, agriculture, fine arts and Indian classical music. IIT (BHU) sits on the same campus but is now a separate institute.
