About
Grown out of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College of 1875 and chartered as a university in 1920, AMU is a central university with a residential, hall-of-residence system modelled on Oxford and Cambridge. It ranks 10th among Indian universities in NIRF 2025 and offers everything from Unani medicine and Urdu to engineering and law on an 1,100-acre campus. Unusually for a central university, AMU still runs most of its own entrance tests rather than relying solely on CUET.
