Visva-Bharati is the university Rabindranath Tagore built at Santiniketan, opened in 1921 and made a central university in 1951. It is best known for Kala Bhavana and Sangit Bhavana, among the most respected fine-arts and music schools in India, and for an education rooted in Tagore's ideas about nature, craft and internationalism. Classes are still famously held outdoors under the trees, and the Prime Minister of India serves as its Chancellor.
