FLAME began in 2007 as the FLAME School of Liberal Education and was notified as a state private university in 2015, making it one of the pioneers of liberal education in India. Its fully residential 60-acre hillside campus at Lavale, outside Pune, runs a US-style major-minor system where students choose their major only at the end of the first year. Undergraduate business (B.B.A.) and liberal arts sit side by side, with a strong emphasis on communication, design and the performing arts.
