Founded by the Jesuits in 1882 as St. Joseph's College and elevated to a state private university in 2022, SJU is one of Bengaluru's most respected arts and science institutions, with an NAAC A++ grade carried over from its college days. It is known for a triple-major undergraduate structure that lets students combine three disciplines rather than specialise early, and for strong journalism, psychology and economics departments. The campus sits on Langford Road in the centre of the city.
