Its real distinction is depth in process technology — chemical, oil, plastic, paint, food and biochemical engineering programmes that are rare elsewhere in India and closely tied to Kanpur's manufacturing base. The conventional CSE and IT branches are the ones with the highest cutoffs today.","aliases":["HBTU"],"tags":["state:uttar-pradesh","city:kanpur-nagar","type:state","sector:govt","stream:engineering","tier:3","exam:jee-main","profile:yes","quality:verified","from:campusbinge"],"facts":[{"label":"Type","value":"State institution · Government","trust":"unverified","source":0},{"label":"Where","value":"Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh","trust":"unverified","source":0},{"label":"Founded","value":"1921","trust":"unverified","source":0},{"label":"Median salary (listed)","value":"₹6 L a year","trust":"unverified","source":0},{"label":"University","value":"Harcourt Butler Technical University Kanpur","trust":"unverified","source":0},{"label":"Website","value":"https://www.hbtu.ac.in/","trust":"unverified","source":0}],"data":{"has":{"sports":false,"cutoffs":false,"admissions":false,"placements":false,"programmes":false,"examCutoffs":false},"lat":null,"lon":null,"city":"Kanpur Nagar","fees":{"pg":null,"ug":null,"note":"Per year, as listed on Shiksha via Campus Binge"},"naac":null,"name":"Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur","nirf":[],"tier":3,"type":"State","email":null,"phone":null,"state":"Uttar Pradesh","hostel":true,"listed":{"city":"Kanpur Nagar","fees":{"pg":null,"ug":null},"type":"State","state":"Uttar Pradesh","ratings":{"overall":null},"outcomes":{"medianLpa":6,"placementPct":null},"management":"Government"},"siteId":"cb-1-44643637092","stream":"Engineering","address":null,"aicteId":null,"pincode":null,"ratings":{"faculty":null,"overall":null,"shiksha":null,"academic":null,"placement":null,"socialLife":null,"infrastructure":null},"streams":["engineering"],"website":"https://www.hbtu.ac.in/","district":"Kanpur Nagar","outcomes":{"note":"Chemical, oil and food technology branches attract specialised process-industry recruiters that most engineering colleges never see; computing branches carry the higher average packages.","intake":800,"placed":null,"graduated":null,"medianLpa":6,"placementPct":null,"avgPackageLpa":8,"highestPackageLpa":null},"prestige":-250,"tierNote":"Internal Campus Binge tier for sorting, not a ranking.","facilities":[],"management":"Government","provenance":{"confidence":"high","fieldEvidence":{},"profileSource":"campusbinge_400_aug2026","verifiedFields":[],"descriptionSource":"curated_batch_aug2026"},"university":"Harcourt Butler Technical University Kanpur","affiliation":"State University","campusAcres":null,"dataQuality":"verified","established":1921,"accreditation":"NBA (select UG programmes)","entranceExams":["JEE Main","UPTAC counselling"],"notableAlumni":["Keshav Dev Malaviya – Union Minister for Mines and Oil, called the father of India's hydrocarbon industry","Alakh Pandey – founder of Physics Wallah, India's first edtech unicorn","Dinesh Agarwal – founder and CEO of IndiaMART","Anil Khandelwal – former Chairman and Managing Director of Bank of Baroda","Anu Garg – founder of Wordsmith.org and its A.Word.A.Day newsletter"],"otherRankings":[],"popularCourses":["B.Tech Chemical Engineering","B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering","B.Tech Information Technology","B.Tech Electrical Engineering","B.Tech Mechanical Engineering","B.Tech Civil Engineering","B.Tech Food Technology","B.Tech Plastic Technology"],"specialization":"Engineering & Technology","flagshipProgram":"B.Tech"},"links":[{"rel":"exam","id":"exam/jee-main"}],"sources":[{"label":"Campus Binge college data (campusbinge.in)","url":"https://campusbinge.in/colleges/Harcourt%20Butler%20Technical%20University%2C%20Kanpur","asOf":"2026-10-29","trust":"unverified","method":"listed"},{"label":"Campus Binge editorial description","trust":"unverified","method":"hand"},{"label":"Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur (official website)","url":"https://www.hbtu.ac.in/","trust":"unverified","method":"official"}],"trust":"unverified","origin":"dataset","asOf":"2026-10-29","digest":"sha256:d44771c93c18c1c97b62ff7e1c9a185d0ea97fe86c9b3758cdae7ec88ad05fde"}
