Karnataka's first engineering college, founded in 1917 by Sir M. Visvesvaraya and the fifth in the country. Under the UVCE Act 2021 it separated from Bangalore University and now runs as a state autonomous public university across two campuses — the historic K. R. Circle site in central Bengaluru and a larger one at Jnana Bharathi. Its alumni list is extraordinary for a state college, including a former Atomic Energy Commission chairman and a former DRDO chief.
