Established in 1854, COEP is the third-oldest engineering college in Asia and was upgraded from an autonomous college to a unitary state technological university in 2022. It sits on a compact riverside campus in central Pune and is best known for its student engineering culture, from the MindSpark tech festival to one of India's oldest college boat clubs on the Mula-Mutha. Sir M. Visvesvaraya, whose birthday India marks as Engineers' Day, is its most famous alumnus.
