Ashoka is India's highest-profile private liberal arts university, founded in 2014 on a philanthropy model in which dozens of founders collectively endowed the institution. Its fully residential Sonipat campus runs a US-style curriculum with a compulsory Foundation Course, free choice of major after the first year, and unusually small classes taught by a heavily international faculty. It does not participate in NIRF, and its tuition is among the highest in Indian higher education — offset by one of the country's largest need-based financial aid programmes.
